"For the first 6 years of our relationship, we had to date long distance."

I know I know, everyone on social media is talking about voting, everywhere you go people are talking about voting in the midterm elections, and you might be thinking, "Ugh, I'm done with it!" But let me tell you a story. ! want to give you an opinion that maybe you haven't heard before. I want to tell you a story about how voting has affected me, and hopefully that will give you the nudge to at least consider voting and getting out there.

My husband and I have been together for over 10 years. For the first 6 years of our relationship, we had to date long distance -- 6 years! And that's because there was a law in place that prohibited me from being in this country legally. And then, 4 years ago, the party that was in office managed to strike down that law - and that made it possible for me to be with my husband. For the last 4 years I've been able to be married to him legally, because of a law that was changed. The people in power can literally change your life and affect your future for the rest of your life. That's where your vote comes into play. Your vote is important, your vote counts, and your vote counts now more than ever.

I'm not a citizen of this country - I'm a legal resident, but I'm not a citizen yet - so I can't vote. So if you're not going to vote for yourself, I ask that you vote for me and people like me who literally can't vote. Please promise you'll vote on my behalf. Thank you.
