"I was afraid my grandmother would never be allowed to visit us again."

A time I really wished I could vote was when the Muslim ban was created, causing those from several Muslim countries to be barred from entering the US for a period of time. I was scared at the time because my family is Iranian. I am a first generation American and I have several family members who live in Iran including my amazing grandmother who visits me. Due to this ban I was afraid my grandmother would never be allowed to visit us again or that my cousins hoping to gain a visa to the United States would be denied simply based on the fact they’re Iranian. My sister was even featured on several news websites such as The Huffington Post as her #GrandparentsNotTerrorists picture went viral. All I could think about was how lucky I was that my parents came over when they did, and how lucky we were that my parents and sister were able to get green cards and later citizenship before this administration came to power. My sister is old enough to vote but I won’t be for another 2 years. I really wished I could’ve voted in the 2016 election or even now during midterms so I could elect people I know would fight against the awful things that our government is doing. I'm sharing my story to move people I know to vote on my behalf. If you can vote, please promise me that you will!

THANK YOU! LOVE yoU!
